SACRAMENTO, CA – 4 Jul, 2017 – Black Women United will host the first Black Women’s March in Sacramento, CA on July 15, 2017, from Crocker Park to the State Capitol. Sponsored by The California Endowment and supported by Activism Articulated,  the ‘Ain’t I A Woman’ march will unify Black women beyond religious, sexual, economic, and academic differences under one umbrella of resistance to oppression. The march will center and elevate the lives and voices of Black women and encourage unity through support from other members of resistance groups. When Black women rise, all marginalized people rise.

Quite often, Black women can feel excluded and forgotten in the modern resistance movement. By highlighting and thanking Black women for their contributions on this day and empowering them to be unapologetically who they are, Black Women United strives to diminish hurtful stereotypes and return Black women to the forefront of political dialogue and participation.

This is an all-inclusive, family-friendly event. All people, regardless of race, gender, ability, age or political affiliation are welcome and encouraged to come out to support the lives and contributions of Black women. This event is child-friendly and will highlight issues affecting Black women through organizations that focus on healthcare, justice, families, women’s issues and political advocacy. Participate in the march digitally using the hashtag #OurTurn.
